Students of the Orange Coast College Classical Guitar program will present their year-end recital with a diverse assortment of works.
The first half will feature students performing works inspired by the changing of seasons in Quebec, African percussion instruments, a Baroque Suite with solo violinist, and a Flamenco finale!
The second half welcomes guest artists: Duo Equilibrium consisting of Yuri Liberzon and Patrick O’Connell. The two are San Francisco Bay area based guitarists who are established soloists and chamber musicians. Yuri and Patrick have performed in multiple chamber settings with the San Francisco Guitar Quartet, Melody of China, Gold Coast Chamber Players, and Diablo Symphony Orchestra. They have also appeared as soloists at Carnegie Hall, World Trade Center in New York, and Marlow Guitar Series in Maryland. Duo Equilibrium has recorded an album of the works of acclaimed composer Konstantin Vassiliev for Naxos record label to come out in August of 2022.
The name Equilibrium reflects the duo’s ability to balance refined technical mastery with mature musical understanding and sensitivity. The name also refers to the varied choice of repertoire in their concert programs, which typically feature works that are not only technically challenging but also musically complex.
The duo met in Baltimore, Maryland while pursuing their bachelor’s degrees at the Peabody Conservatory of Music with renowned guitarist Manuel Barrueco. After attending Peabody, they earned master’s degrees from Yale University and the San Francisco Conservatory of Music.
